1. Chemical Composition
Table 2 - Chemical composition, unit %
| Grade | C | Si | Mn | P | S | Ni | Cr a) | Cu | Ni+Cr b) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| S40C | 0.37~0.43 | 0.15~0.35 | 0.60~0.90 | ≤0.030 | ≤0.035 | ≤0.20 | ≤0.20 | ≤0.30 | ≤0.35 |
Elements not specified in this table shall not be intentionally added, except where necessary for steelmaking purposes.
Note a) May be less than 0.30% upon agreement between supplier and purchaser.
b) Upon agreement between supplier and purchaser, the upper limit for Ni + Cr is less than 0.40% for S09CK, S15CK, and S20CK; for other grades, it may also be less than 0.45%.

2. Mechanical properties of wire rod
Mechanical property values shall be determined by agreement between the supplier and the purchaser.
3. Dimensional Tolerances
Table 8 - Dimensional tolerances for hot-rolled wire rod
| Diameter | Diameter tolerance | Out-of-roundness a) |
|---|---|---|
| <15 | ±0.3 | <0.4 |
| 15<d≤25 | ±0.4 | <0.5 |
| 25<d≤32 | ±0.5 | <0.6 |
| 32<d≤50 | ±0.6 | <0.7 |
Tolerances for wire rod with a diameter exceeding 50 mm shall be determined by agreement between the supplier and the purchaser.
Note a) Out-of-roundness refers to the difference between the maximum and minimum diameters measured on the same cross-section of the wire rod.
